Trump Proposes U.S. Ownership of Gaza, Permanent Resettlement of Palestinians
President Donald Trump has outlined a controversial plan for the United States to take ownership of the Gaza Strip and permanently resettle its Palestinian population elsewhere, sparking international backlash.
In a recent interview with Fox News, President Donald Trump unveiled his vision for the Gaza Strip, proposing that the United States take ownership of the war-torn territory. Trump suggested that Palestinians would not be allowed to return to Gaza, contradicting previous statements from his administration that the relocation would be temporary. Instead, he proposed building “beautiful, safe communities” for the 1.9 million Palestinians in other locations, away from the current dangers in Gaza.
Trump described the project as a “real estate development for the future,” aiming to transform Gaza into “the Riviera of the Middle East.” However, his plan has faced significant opposition. Arab nations, including U.S. allies Jordan and Egypt, have rejected Trump’s push to resettle Palestinians within their borders. A senior Hamas official, Izzat al-Rishq, denounced the proposal as “absurd” and reflective of “deep ignorance” of the region.
The specifics of Trump’s plan remain unclear, but he has implied that financial aid to countries like Jordan and Egypt could be used as leverage to secure agreements for Palestinian resettlement. Despite the lack of detail, Trump’s remarks align with his previous comments on turning Gaza into a lucrative development project.
The proposal has also led to internal contradictions within the Trump administration. While Trump insists on permanent resettlement, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have argued that the relocation would be temporary, aimed at facilitating reconstruction in Gaza.
This plan has stirred controversy and criticism both domestically and internationally, raising questions about the feasibility and ethical implications of such a move.
