FBI Discovers 2,400 New JFK Assassination Records Amid Declassification Push

The FBI has announced the discovery of 2,400 previously unknown records related to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, as part of efforts to comply with President Trump’s executive order to release thousands of related files.

On February 11, 2025, the FBI revealed the discovery of 2,400 new records pertaining to the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy. This development comes as federal agencies work to meet the requirements of an executive order issued by President Donald Trump last month, aimed at declassifying and releasing thousands of files related to the 1963 assassination.

The FBI is in the process of transferring these records to the National Archives and Records Administration, where they will be included in the ongoing declassification process. The announcement has sparked interest among researchers and the public, especially given the long-standing fascination with the JFK assassination and the myriad conspiracy theories it has inspired.

Jefferson Morley, vice president of the Mary Ferrell Foundation and editor of the JFK Facts blog, praised the FBI’s transparency, suggesting it could set a precedent for other agencies to disclose any remaining unsubmitted documents. The newly discovered files’ contents remain unspecified, raising questions about their significance and whether they contain new insights into the assassination.

As the National Archives continues to process over 5 million records related to the assassination, with approximately 3,000 files still unreleased, the FBI’s discovery adds a new chapter to the ongoing effort to fully understand one of America’s most pivotal historical events.
