Johnny Damon Stands Firm on Trump Support Amidst Fan Backlash: 'I Know What's Right'
World Series champion Johnny Damon remains steadfast in his support for President Donald Trump, despite facing criticism from fans.
Johnny Damon, known for his illustrious career with teams like the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, recently shared his unwavering support for President Donald Trump on OutKick’s ‘The Ricky Cobb Show.’ Despite receiving flak from some fans, Damon remains unapologetic, stating, ‘I’m not too concerned about it because I know what’s right.’
Damon’s stance is rooted in his belief in strong policies against illegal immigration and his support for tariffs to level the playing field. He also touched upon his concerns about international aid, particularly to Ukraine, and commended President Trump’s efforts to foster peace between Russia and Ukraine. ‘I mentioned to my friends years ago, I was like, ‘Is Ukraine ever going to pay us back? I mean we’re giving them so much money’ and everybody kinda said, ‘Yeah, I don’t know how that works out.’ Well, as we see on the world stage right now, President Trump is trying to make peace with Russia and Ukraine,’ Damon remarked.
The former outfielder emphasized that his support for Trump is driven by his desire to ensure a safe future for his eight children. ‘I’m a 51-year-old man with eight kids. I worry about my kids’ future. I want to make sure they live in a world that’s safe,’ he said. Damon also noted that while some of his friends may not like Trump’s style, many agree with his policies. ‘I know I have a lot of friends on the right, a lot of friends on the left and a lot of them agree with Trump’s policies. They just don’t like how strong of a boss he is and our country needed something like that.’
Damon’s endorsement of Trump dates back to the 2016 presidential election, and he was later appointed to serve on the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition in 2020. His steadfast support for Trump, despite the potential for fan backlash, underscores his commitment to what he believes is right for the country and his family.
