In an upcoming meeting at the Department of Justice, GOP state attorneys general are preparing to collaborate with President Donald Trump and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on public safety, with a significant focus on the ongoing battle against the fentanyl epidemic. The meeting comes as part of Trump’s broader initiative to address crime and community safety across the United States.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares has praised Bondi’s proactive approach, noting a dramatic increase in communication from the DOJ under Trump’s administration compared to the previous years under the Biden administration. Miyares emphasized the severity of the fentanyl crisis, comparing the annual death toll to that of two Vietnam Wars, and highlighted Virginia’s significant progress in reducing addiction deaths by 40% since 2021.

He criticized the Biden administration for not taking the issue seriously enough, pointing out the staggering amount of fentanyl crossing the southern border.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday stressed the importance of keeping families together as a key component of public safety. He advocated for a stronger Republican presence in Democrat-controlled inner cities, arguing that only through bipartisan collaboration can effective solutions be implemented. Sunday also highlighted the rapid transit of fentanyl from Mexico to Pennsylvania, underscoring the urgency of the situation.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey called for addressing the fentanyl crisis at its source, holding China accountable for supplying Mexican drug cartels with the necessary components for fentanyl production. Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch praised Trump’s use of tariffs to combat the crisis and outlined Mississippi’s efforts to raise awareness and equip citizens through the One Pill Can Kill Campaign and the Fentanyl Strike Force.
