Senator Kelly Ditches Tesla Over Musk Controversy

Arizona Senator Mark Kelly announced he is getting rid of his Tesla due to his disapproval of CEO Elon Musk.

In a surprising move that has sparked widespread commentary, Democratic Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona revealed in a video on social media platform X that he will no longer drive his Tesla. Kelly, a retired astronaut, cited his discomfort with the vehicle now serving as a ‘rolling billboard’ for Elon Musk, whom he referred to as an ‘a–hole’. This decision comes amidst growing tensions between Kelly and Musk, highlighted by their recent social media exchanges.

Kelly initially purchased the Tesla because of its performance, likening it to a ‘rocket ship’. However, recent actions by Musk, particularly his involvement in politics and public disputes, have led Kelly to reconsider his ownership. The senator expressed frustration over the perceived damage Musk and former President Donald Trump are inflicting on the country, sentiments that have intensified over the last two months.

The announcement drew swift reactions from conservatives on social media, many of whom mocked Kelly’s decision. Comments ranged from calling it ’the most stunning and brave thing a politician has ever done’ to suggesting that Kelly’s move inadvertently served as a strong endorsement for Tesla’s products. Despite the criticism, Kelly remains firm in his stance, stating that his last day driving the Tesla would be the day of his announcement.

This incident is part of a broader narrative involving electric vehicles and political figures. Protests at Tesla showrooms have escalated into vandalism of Tesla vehicles and charging stations across the country. These demonstrations initially targeted the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has been reducing the federal workforce and scrutinizing government spending.

Adding to the controversy, President Donald Trump recently drove a red Tesla Model S at the White House, an action that was met with criticism from Democrats who accused him of supporting Musk’s ‘failing stock’ amid economic challenges. Meanwhile, conservatives have pointed out the selective support for electric vehicles among Democrats, recalling former President Joe Biden’s promotion of electric vehicles with a hybrid Jeep Wrangler 4xe.

The feud between Kelly and Musk escalated further when Musk labeled Kelly a ’traitor’ following the senator’s supportive comments about Ukraine. Kelly retorted by defending his stance on freedom and America’s role in global security.

As political and personal battles continue to intertwine with corporate and environmental issues, Kelly’s decision to part ways with his Tesla underscores the complex dynamics at play in today’s political landscape.
