Elon Musk's Efficiency Drive Gains Traction with New GOP-Backed Legislation

A new bill spearheaded by House GOP members aims to solidify the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, into federal law, enhancing its ability to implement cost-saving measures across government agencies.

In a move to support President Donald Trump’s efforts to curb government waste, a group of House Republicans, led by Rep. Cory Mills of Florida, has introduced legislation to enshrine the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) into federal law. This bill aims to protect DOGE from legal challenges and ensure its continued operation for the next year and a half.

Under the leadership of Elon Musk, DOGE has been instrumental in identifying billions in what it considers wasteful government spending. The proposed legislation would not only codify Trump’s executive order but also empower Musk and Acting Administrator Amy Gleason to execute further efficiency-driven cuts within the federal government.

Rep. Mills emphasized the importance of DOGE’s role, stating, “This creates a reporting structure that allows what DOGE is doing with the Cabinet to be relayed to Congress, which is our Article I authorities, which is really the idea of being good stewards of taxpayer funding.” He further praised Musk’s innovative approach, noting, “What Elon has done is that he’s created kind of this algorithm that works in the background, that sifts through all of these different programs, 24 hours a day, to look at anomalies and how they’re being utilized.”

The bill enjoys support from several co-sponsors, including House DOGE Caucus co-chair Aaron Bean and Representatives Byron Donalds, Barry Moore, and Michael Rulli. If passed, the legislation could shield DOGE from Democratic efforts to hinder its data collection and efficiency initiatives.

Recently, DOGE faced a setback when ordered by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan to disclose records in response to a lawsuit by a group of Democratic attorneys general. Despite such challenges, the proposed bill represents a significant step forward in the GOP’s commitment to government efficiency and fiscal responsibility.
