Rubio Defends U.S. Strikes on Houthi Rebels as a Global Service

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has defended the Trump administration’s airstrikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen, describing the actions as a necessary service to the world.

In a recent appearance on CBS’s ‘Face the Nation,’ Rubio explained the rationale behind the U.S. military’s actions against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who have been disrupting global shipping lanes. ‘We’re doing the entire world a favor by getting rid of these guys and their ability to strike global shipping,’ Rubio stated firmly, emphasizing the mission’s continuation until the threat is neutralized.

The comments followed President Donald Trump’s announcement on social media about ordering ‘decisive and powerful’ airstrikes aimed at curbing the Houthis’ violent and piratical activities against American and international maritime traffic. Trump highlighted the severe economic impact and the safety risks posed by the Houthis, noting that no U.S.-flagged commercial ship had safely navigated through critical waterways like the Suez Canal and the Red Sea in over a year.

Rubio underscored the urgency of the situation, pointing out that the Houthis had attacked 174 U.S. naval vessels and launched 145 attacks on commercial shipping within the last year alone. ‘So we basically have a band of pirates, you know, with guided precision anti-ship weaponry and exacting a toll system in one of the most important shipping lanes in the world,’ Rubio described, stressing the unsustainable nature of such disruptions.

The Secretary of State assured that the strikes would persist until the Houthis are stripped of their capability to threaten maritime security. ‘We’re not going to have people sitting around with the missiles attacking the U.S. Navy. It’s not going to happen. Not under President Trump,’ Rubio concluded, reinforcing the administration’s resolve to safeguard international shipping and uphold global economic stability.
