Trump Orders Military Strikes Against Houthi Rebels in Yemen

President Donald Trump has ordered decisive military action against Houthi rebels in Yemen, escalating tensions in the region.

In a significant escalation of military action, President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he had commanded the U.S. military to launch ‘decisive and powerful’ strikes against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen. The decision comes after more than a year since a U.S.-flagged commercial ship safely navigated through critical maritime routes like the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden. Trump highlighted that the last American warship to pass through the Red Sea was attacked over a dozen times by the Houthis just four months ago, costing the global economy billions and endangering lives.

The U.S. Central Command reported initiating a series of precision strikes targeting Houthi positions across Yemen, aimed at defending American interests, deterring enemies, and ensuring freedom of navigation. This military response follows relentless Houthi attacks on U.S. assets, which Trump warned must cease immediately, threatening severe repercussions should they continue.

In response to the U.S. strikes, Iranian General Hossein Salami, leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, issued a stern warning, promising a ‘decisive and destructive’ retaliation to any threats against Iran. Salami emphasized Iran’s readiness and legitimacy on the global stage, asserting that the nation would not remain in hiding.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared that the campaign against the Houthis would be ‘unrelenting’ until they agree to stop attacking U.S. ships and drones. The Houthis, backed by Iran, have reported significant casualties from the recent strikes, with at least 53 killed and around 100 injured, according to the Associated Press. Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi vowed to escalate their response, targeting American military assets if the aggression persists.

The U.S. military has also successfully intercepted and destroyed about a dozen Houthi drones aimed at the Truman Carrier Strike Group in the Red Sea, preventing potential threats well before they could materialize.
