Canadian Rage Room Offers Trump Portrait Smashing Amid Tariff Tensions

A Halifax rage room is capitalizing on Canadian frustration with U.S. tariffs by offering customers the chance to smash portraits of President Donald Trump.

In response to ongoing trade tensions and President Donald Trump’s tariff policies, a unique business in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has introduced a novel way for Canadians to vent their frustrations. Rage Room: Halifax has launched a ‘Smash the Tariffs’ promotion, allowing customers to take a swing at portraits of Trump, complete with discounts on other items available for smashing.

The promotion, announced on the rage room’s website, comes with an offer of a free Trump portrait with any package purchase. For a $5 donation to a local food bank, participants can also destroy likenesses of Vice President JD Vance and DOGE leader Elon Musk. Owner Terry LeBlanc, who typically steers clear of politics, justified the move by stating, “we’re entertainment first,” and emphasized that the rage room serves as a stress-relieving and entertaining outlet for its customers.

CTV News captured the essence of the promotion with a report showing a 14-year-old boy and his sister enthusiastically destroying Trump’s portraits. The boy explained his participation as a response to how Trump has been treating Canada, while his sister labeled Trump as “not a very smart man,” and appreciated the safe space to release her frustrations.

The promotion comes amidst broader Canadian reactions to U.S. tariffs. Some stores have pulled American products from their shelves, and political figures have weighed in. Prime Minister Mark Carney commented on the limitations of matching U.S. tariffs given the significant size difference between the Canadian and American economies. Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre criticized the government’s handling of the situation, warning of the adverse effects on both Canadian and U.S. workers.

As the trade dispute continues, the Halifax rage room provides a unique and physical outlet for Canadians to express their discontent with U.S. trade policies.
