FBI Extradites Key MS-13 Leader from Mexico: A Major Blow to Gang Operations

FBI Director Kash Patel announced the successful extradition of Francisco Javier Roman-Bardales, a key senior leader of MS-13, from Mexico to the United States.

In a significant development in the fight against transnational organized crime, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the extradition of Francisco Javier Roman-Bardales, a high-ranking member of the notorious MS-13 gang. Arrested on Monday in the mountainous region of Veracruz, Mexico, by Mexican soldiers and federal agents, Bardales was wanted for his alleged role in ordering violent acts against civilians and rival gang members, as well as his involvement in drug distribution and extortion schemes across the U.S. and El Salvador.

Patel emphasized the importance of this operation, stating, “This is a major victory both for our law enforcement partners and for a safer America.” He extended his gratitude to the brave personnel involved in the mission and acknowledged the crucial support from Mexico’s SSPC and FGE teams during the investigation and arrest.

Bardales, who was on the FBI’s “Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” list, faces charges in the Eastern District of New York. His extradition marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to dismantle MS-13, which was recently declared a foreign terrorist organization by the Trump administration alongside other Latin American criminal groups.

This operation comes on the heels of other successful extraditions and crackdowns on drug cartels and gangs, highlighting the intensified cooperation between U.S. and Mexican authorities under the leadership of President Claudia Sheinbaum. The collaborative efforts are part of broader initiatives to combat the flow of dangerous drugs like fentanyl and methamphetamine into the U.S., which have been identified as critical threats by the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The extradition of Roman-Bardales not only represents a significant blow to MS-13’s operations but also underscores the effectiveness of international law enforcement collaboration in addressing global criminal networks.
