GOP Lawmaker Moves to Impeach Judge Over Blocked Trump Deportation Flights

Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, has filed impeachment articles against a federal judge who halted deportation flights targeting members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, sparking a legal and political firestorm.

In a bold move that has intensified the ongoing legal battle between the Trump administration and the judiciary, Representative Brandon Gill from Texas has initiated impeachment proceedings against U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg. The judge had issued an emergency order to stop deportation flights to El Salvador, which were authorized under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 and aimed at removing members of the notorious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua from the United States.

Gill’s resolution, which was first reported by Fox News Digital, criticizes Judge Boasberg for overstepping his judicial bounds and impeding President Trump’s ability to fulfill his campaign promises on immigration. “For the past several weeks, we’ve seen several rogue activist judges try to impede the president from exercising, not only the mandate voters gave him, but his democratic and constitutional authority to keep the American people safe,” Gill stated.

The impeachment articles specifically highlight an instance where Judge Boasberg’s order forced the Trump administration to turn back deportation flights mid-air, a move that Gill and his supporters argue jeopardizes national security and represents an abuse of judicial power. The controversy has escalated to the point where President Trump himself has publicly supported the impeachment effort, labeling Boasberg a “Radical Left Lunatic of a Judge” on his Truth Social platform.

Human rights groups have countered the administration’s actions, arguing that the deportation plans could inadvertently affect Venezuelan nationals with legitimate asylum claims, who have no connection to the gang. This has led to a broader debate about the balance of power between the judiciary and the executive branch, and the rights of immigrants.

As the situation develops, Gill plans to navigate the impeachment resolution through the traditional channels, starting with the House Judiciary Committee, where he serves as a member. This move is set against a backdrop of similar actions by other Republican lawmakers targeting federal judges for rulings that conflict with Trump administration policies.

The legal standoff may eventually reach the Supreme Court, potentially setting a precedent for the limits of federal judicial authority. As tensions rise, the nation watches closely to see how this clash between branches of government will unfold, and what it might mean for the future of immigration policy and judicial oversight in the United States.
