Trump Calls Putin Discussion 'Great,' Pushes for Ukraine Ceasefire

In a recent interview, President Donald Trump discussed his lengthy phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, describing it as ‘great’ while advocating for a ceasefire in Ukraine.

President Donald Trump, in an exclusive interview on ‘The Ingraham Angle,’ shared insights on his recent two-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, labeling the discussion as ‘great.’ The conversation took place amidst ongoing efforts to mediate peace between Russia and Ukraine following an earlier unconditional 30-day ceasefire proposed by Ukrainian officials in March.

Trump highlighted the focus of their discussion, stating, “[We] talked about a lot of things — toward getting it to peace, and we talked about other things also,” referencing the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Despite these efforts, Putin did not agree to an unconditional ceasefire but instead announced a temporary halt of strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for 30 days. However, shortly after this announcement, reports emerged of a Russian-guided bomb causing a power outage in Slovyansk, Ukraine, accompanied by air raid sirens and drone activities across several Ukrainian cities.

The former U.S. president reiterated his belief that the war would not have occurred under his administration, telling Fox News host Laura Ingraham, “it was not a war that was supposed to happen.” Trump also commented on the current military situation, noting that Russia holds an advantage with about 2,500 Ukrainian soldiers reportedly encircled. He expressed concerns over potential escalation, mentioning the possibility of World War III if the situation spirals out of control.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have denied Trump’s claims of encircled troops, labeling them as false and politically motivated. Amidst these developments, a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine is scheduled for Wednesday, involving 175 individuals from each side.

As peace talks continue, the Kremlin has outlined conditions for a potential broader ceasefire, including the cessation of Ukrainian mobilization and rearmament, as well as the complete halt of foreign military aid and intelligence to Kyiv.
