Trump's Call with Putin Sparks Uncertainty and Concern in Ukraine
Following a lengthy phone conversation between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed the need for more details about the discussed peace proposals.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has voiced his concerns over the recent developments following a phone call between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. In the call, which lasted nearly two hours, Trump and Putin discussed elements of a potential peace agreement, as Trump later described it on Truth Social as “very good and productive.” However, Zelenskyy emphasized the urgency of understanding the specifics of these proposals, stating, “For us, the red line is the recognition of the Ukrainian temporarily occupied territories as Russian. We will not go for it.
Despite an announced ceasefire focused on protecting energy and civilian infrastructure, attacks continue to plague Ukraine. Russia launched drone strikes that damaged civilian areas and a hospital, contradicting the ceasefire agreement. Zelenskyy highlighted these ongoing aggressions and stressed the importance of involving Ukraine in any peace negotiations, saying, “Trying to negotiate without Ukraine, in my view, will not be productive.”
The White House confirmed that the leaders agreed to start peace efforts with an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, followed by technical negotiations on implementing a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, aiming for a full ceasefire and permanent peace. These negotiations are set to begin immediately in the Middle East. However, Putin’s demand for a complete cessation of military aid to Ukraine as a condition for ending the war adds another layer of complexity to the situation.
Zelenskyy plans to discuss these developments with Trump, seeking clarity on the next steps. As the situation unfolds, the international community watches closely, hoping for a resolution that brings lasting peace to the region.
