Elon Musk's DOGE Standoff with US Institute of Peace Resolved, Administration Lauds Compliance

The standoff between the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) has ended, with the Trump administration praising the institute’s compliance with executive orders.

In a recent escalation of tensions between government agencies and the Trump administration’s efficiency initiatives, the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) found itself at the center of a standoff with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The conflict, which drew significant attention due to its association with Elon Musk’s DOGE, has now been resolved, with the administration commending the USIP’s move towards compliance with executive directives.

The USIP, an independent institution funded by Congress and established in 1984 to promote international peace and diplomacy, recently faced a significant overhaul. The Trump administration fired 11 of its 14 board members after the institute failed to comply with an executive order mandating a reduction to its statutory minimum size. The situation escalated when Kenneth Jackson, appointed as the acting president by the remaining board members, attempted to enter the USIP’s headquarters but was denied access by the institute’s employees.

The standoff reached a critical point when Jackson, backed by a DOGE team, made another attempt to enter the building. The Metropolitan Police Department intervened following a call from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and after verifying Jackson’s position as acting president, facilitated his entry into the building. The former acting president, George Moose, left the premises without incident, and no arrests were made.

An administration official praised the resolution, stating, “With Mr. Jackson lawfully appointed as Acting President, USIP is now on the right path to fully comply with the President’s February 19th Executive Order and uphold its responsibility to the American people.” This sentiment was echoed by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who criticized the actions of the USIP staff as a ‘resistance from bureaucrats who don’t want to see change.’

The incident at USIP is not isolated, as similar standoffs have occurred with other government agencies, including the U.S. African Development Foundation. These conflicts highlight the ongoing tension between the Trump administration’s push for efficiency and the resistance from within government institutions.

As the situation with USIP stabilizes, attention is drawn to the broader implications of these conflicts and the administration’s efforts to streamline government operations, often linked to figures like Elon Musk and his initiatives such as DOGE.
