Bill Maher Critiques Elon Musk and DOGE on Military Spending

Bill Maher, host of ‘Real Time,’ has publicly criticized Elon Musk and the DOGE initiative for not aggressively cutting U.S. military spending.

In a recent episode of ‘Real Time,’ HBO host Bill Maher took aim at tech mogul Elon Musk and the DOGE initiative, expressing frustration over their failure to significantly reduce the U.S. military budget. Maher highlighted a discrepancy between promised and actual cuts, noting that while President Donald Trump suggested potential savings of ‘hundreds of billions of dollars’ from military fraud and abuse, the Department of Defense recently announced only a $580 million cut from its $900 billion budget.

Maher sarcastically remarked on Musk’s previous social media posts criticizing the F-35 program as a poor use of funds, questioning why similar scrutiny wasn’t being applied more broadly to military expenditures. He pointed out that the U.S. defense spending constitutes 47% of the federal discretionary budget, far exceeding other departments, and questioned the necessity of maintaining numerous overseas military bases and amenities like golf courses.

The HBO host also criticized the Department of Homeland Security, branding it a ‘bloated bureaucracy,’ and questioned the effectiveness and necessity of current airport security measures implemented post-9/11. Maher’s commentary reflects a broader call for efficiency and reevaluation of government spending, particularly in areas that he perceives as having significant potential for savings.

Fox News Digital reached out to representatives of Elon Musk for comment but did not receive a response at the time of publication. Maher’s critique adds to the ongoing debate about the allocation of federal funds and the effectiveness of initiatives like DOGE in tackling government waste.
