Trump Demands Removal of 'Distorted' Portrait from Colorado Capitol

Former President Donald Trump has demanded the immediate removal of his portrait from the Colorado State Capitol, labeling it as ‘distorted’ and ’truly the worst.’

In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the portrait unveiled in 2019 by Colorado Governor Jared Polis. The portrait, which joins a wall of former presidents inside the capitol, was created by artist Sarah A. Boardman. Trump criticized the depiction, stating, ‘Nobody likes a bad picture or painting of themselves, but the one in Colorado, in the State Capitol Building, put up by the Governor, along with all other Presidents, was purposefully distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before.’

Trump compared his portrait unfavorably to that of former President Barack Obama, also painted by Boardman, which he said ’looks wonderful.’ He claimed to be acting on behalf of ‘angry Coloradans’ who have complained about the portrait, expressing a preference for no portrait over the current one. ‘In any event, I would much prefer not having a picture than having this one, but many people from Colorado have called and written to complain,’ Trump wrote.

The former president also used the opportunity to attack Governor Polis over his crime policies, particularly concerning the Tren de Aragua gang, which Trump claimed had ‘practically taken over Aurora.’ He criticized Polis as ’extremely weak on Crime,’ referencing a viral video from his campaign showing gang members breaking into an apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado.

Artist Sarah A. Boardman, at the portrait’s unveiling, described her work as ’thoughtful, non-confrontational, not angry, not happy, not tweeting,’ aiming for a neutral depiction of Trump as a historical figure. Despite this, Trump’s reaction has sparked a new round of controversy surrounding his image and legacy.
