Trump Points Finger at National Security Adviser in Signal Chat Scandal

President Donald Trump suggested that national security adviser Mike Waltz was behind the Signal chat scandal during a recent press interaction.

In a surprising turn of events, President Donald Trump hinted that national security adviser Mike Waltz might be responsible for the Signal chat scandal. While signing an executive order, Trump responded to queries about the scandal by saying, “It was Mike, I guess. I don’t know, I always thought it was Mike,” before dismissing the media’s coverage as a “witch hunt.” This statement marks a shift from his earlier comments to NBC, where he implicated a staffer associated with Michael, without specifying further.

The scandal erupted after The Atlantic’s Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg revealed he was inadvertently included in a Signal chat group with senior Trump administration officials discussing an attack on Houthi targets in Yemen. Despite initial doubts about the chat’s authenticity, Goldberg confirmed its legitimacy upon verifying the discussed actions.

Trump defended Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, asserting his non-involvement in the scandal and praising his performance. The president also questioned the security of the Signal app, suggesting it might be “defective.” Amidst the controversy, Trump emphasized the success of the attack on the Houthis, urging the media to focus on the outcome rather than the chat group.

The White House has been downplaying the report, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt labeling it a “hoax” and criticizing The Atlantic’s coverage. Leavitt also mentioned that Elon Musk is assisting in investigating the leak, though the consequences for those involved remain uncertain, as Trump has stated he would not dismiss Waltz over the incident.
