James Carville Declares Trump Administration's Swift Collapse
Democratic strategist James Carville asserts that the Trump administration has collapsed within its first three months, a claim made during his recent appearance on CNN.
In a striking statement on CNN’s Smerconish, Democratic strategist James Carville claimed that the Trump administration has already collapsed, less than three months into its term. Carville, a former advisor to President Bill Clinton, expressed his surprise at the speed of the administration’s downfall, stating, “I had no idea. I thought I’d have to wait longer for the imminent collapse. It happened even faster than I could imagine.”.
Carville’s comments were in response to a February op-ed he wrote for The New York Times, where he predicted the administration’s collapse and advised Democrats to strategically retreat and wait for the inevitable. He argued that public support for Trump would plummet, a process he believes is already underway. Despite this, host Michael Smerconish challenged Carville, pointing out that Democratic approval ratings are also at historic lows. Carville responded by suggesting that this presents a unique opportunity for the Democratic Party to redefine itself amidst what he described as the gravest crisis the U.S. has faced in 80 years.
Carville went further, labeling the Trump administration as the “end of the rule of law” and criticizing its leadership as “nincompoops and blockheads and buffoons.” However, recent polls suggest a more nuanced picture. A Gallup poll from the first three months of 2025 shows Trump with a 45% approval rating, slightly higher than the 42% he had at the same point in his first term. Additionally, a Fox News National poll from March indicated that 49% of Americans approve of Trump’s job performance.
Despite these figures, Carville’s bold predictions have faced scrutiny, particularly after his incorrect forecast in a New York Times op-ed before the 2024 election, where he confidently predicted Kamala Harris’s victory.
