Democratic Investments in Tesla Amidst Anti-Musk Rhetoric

Despite public criticism of Elon Musk, several Democratic lawmakers continue to invest in Tesla, highlighting a complex relationship with the company.

In recent months, Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk have faced increasing hostility, including violent attacks on vehicles and dealerships, and personal attacks from political figures. Despite this, several Democratic lawmakers have continued to invest in Tesla, revealing a stark contrast between their public statements and financial decisions.

Notable incidents include a firebombing at a Tesla dealership in Las Vegas and a man using a four-wheeler to damage multiple Teslas in Texarkana. Additionally, a website named ‘DOGEQUEST’ has emerged, aimed at doxxing Tesla owners and potentially inciting further violence. Amidst these events, Democratic representatives such as Josh Gottheimer, Vicente Gonzalez, Gil Cisneros, and Ro Khanna have purchased Tesla shares.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been vocal in her criticism of Musk, labeling him as ‘sympathetic to Nazis’ and questioning his intelligence. Similarly, Rep. Gottheimer has expressed concerns over Musk’s access to sensitive data, yet he disclosed purchasing up to $45,000 in Tesla stock around the same time. Rep. Gonzalez, who criticized the actions of DOGE, also invested between $65,000 and $150,000 in Tesla stock this month.

The dichotomy between the Democrats’ public stance against Musk and their investments in Tesla has drawn attention. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt commented on the situation, noting that Democrats were once strong supporters of Tesla until Musk’s political affiliations shifted. Leavitt condemned the attacks on Tesla as ‘domestic terrorism’ and praised the efforts of Attorney General Pam Bondi in investigating these incidents.

This situation underscores the complex interplay between political rhetoric and financial interests, as Democratic lawmakers navigate their positions on Musk and Tesla amidst ongoing controversies.
