Doubts Arise Over JD Vance's Role as Trump's MAGA Successor
Pro-Trump writer Batya Ungar-Sargon expresses skepticism about Vice President JD Vance’s ability to carry the MAGA movement forward in the 2028 election.
Batya Ungar-Sargon, a pro-Trump writer, has voiced doubts about Vice President JD Vance’s capacity to inherit the MAGA mantle from President Donald Trump. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Ungar-Sargon highlighted a perceived policy gap between Trump and Vance, particularly on issues like abortion, which she believes could pose challenges for Vance in the future. “I don’t think it’s JD,” she stated, despite acknowledging Vance’s brilliance and potential.
Ungar-Sargon’s skepticism was further fueled by Trump’s cautious comments during a recent Super Bowl interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier. When asked about Vance as his successor in 2028, Trump responded, “No, but he’s very capable,” emphasizing that it was too early to decide. This hesitation from Trump, according to Ungar-Sargon, suggests uncertainty about Vance’s role as the heir apparent to the MAGA movement.
Despite Vance’s strong standing among the GOP base, evidenced by his overwhelming support at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Ungar-Sargon speculated that other figures from Trump’s cabinet, such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio or Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, could emerge as potential “dark horse” candidates in 2028.
Ungar-Sargon praised Trump’s approach to neutralizing abortion as a political issue during the 2024 election, suggesting that Vance’s focus on this topic might not resonate as effectively with the broader electorate. She emphasized the importance of aligning with the middle ground on critical issues to secure victory in future elections.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the question of who will carry forward Trump’s MAGA movement remains open, with Ungar-Sargon’s insights adding a layer of complexity to the discussion about Vance’s future in the Republican Party.
