2027 Military World Games Set for Charlotte, North Carolina

The 2027 Military World Games will mark the first time the event is hosted in the United States, set to take place in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Military World Games, a significant international sporting event, will be hosted in the United States for the first time in 2027, with Charlotte, North Carolina, chosen as the venue. This announcement comes after the last games were held in Wuhan, China, in 2019, just before the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic, which led to an eight-year hiatus for the event.

The decision to host the games in the U.S. was finalized with the approval of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, as stated by Eli Bremer, co-chair of the event. Bremer emphasized Hegseth’s vision for the U.S. military, which aligns with the ethos of the games, focusing on creating warriors through elite sporting events. This event is seen as an opportunity to attract talented individuals into the military, resonating with the leadership under Secretary Hegseth and the broader Trump administration.

The games, organized by the International Military Sports Council (CISM), are not only a platform for athletic competition but also serve as a means to foster international relations and peace. CISM President Nilton Romil highlighted the challenges of hosting such an event in the U.S. for the first time, including navigating security and diplomatic protocols, but stressed the symbolic importance of promoting global peace and unity.

The 2027 Military World Games will be a historic event, coming to a G7 nation for the first time since Italy hosted in 2003. It will also occur amidst other major international sporting events in the U.S., including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The games are expected to provide a unique opportunity for military personnel from around the world to engage in friendly competition, potentially easing geopolitical tensions and fostering mutual understanding among nations.
