Federal Charges Brought Against Three Alleged MS-13 Members in Florida Murder Case

Attorney General Pam Bondi has announced federal murder charges against three alleged MS-13 gang members linked to a brutal 2015 murder in Florida.

In a significant development in the fight against gang violence, Attorney General Pam Bondi has revealed that federal murder charges have been filed against three individuals believed to be associated with the notorious MS-13 gang. The charges stem from the murder of 22-year-old Gerson Vilelio Vasquez-Portillo, killed in a violent attack in western Palm Beach County in 2015. The suspects, Hugo Adiel Bermudez-Martinez, Jose Ezequiel Gamez-Maravilla, and Wilber Rosendo Navarro-Escobar, are accused of stabbing and shooting Vasquez-Portillo, who was thought to be connected to a rival gang.

The arrests are part of Operation Sombra De La Bestia, a multi-agency effort targeting MS-13 gang activities, and are related to a series of cold-case investigations into murders committed in 2014 and 2015 in and around Broward County. One particularly gruesome case involved a victim who was stabbed over 100 times before being shot in the head. Bondi emphasized the organized and terrorist nature of these gangs, stating, “They are living among us because they think they can get away with this, and they cannot.”

Bondi also hinted at the possibility of seeking the death penalty for the suspects and warned other gang members to consider self-deportation as law enforcement continues their crackdown. The operation involved collaboration with the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and the Broward Sheriff’s Office, showcasing a united front against gang violence.

The MS-13 gang, founded by Salvadoran immigrants in Los Angeles in the 1980s, has spread across the U.S., known for its extreme violence, including murders, extortion, and drug trafficking. This recent action against its members underscores the ongoing efforts to dismantle the gang’s operations and bring justice to victims and their families.
