DOGE Saves $1M by Modernizing GSA's Outdated Tech
The U.S. General Services Administration has saved $1 million by converting decades-old technology, according to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
In a significant move towards efficiency, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has successfully modernized its information storage technology, saving $1 million in the process. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, announced the achievement on social media platform X, highlighting the conversion of 14,000 magnetic tapes to modern digital records. This initiative is part of DOGE’s broader mission to eliminate wasteful government spending.
The GSA, responsible for providing office space, transportation, and other essential services to federal agencies, has been a focal point for DOGE’s efforts. The conversion not only represents a financial saving but also a step towards more sustainable and efficient government operations. DOGE’s involvement underscores its commitment to leveraging technology to improve government services.
This news comes on the heels of another DOGE success story at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), where a costly website maintenance contract was terminated, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars monthly. The VA now manages its website modifications internally, with a single software engineer dedicating about 10 hours a week to the task.
Further demonstrating its impact, DOGE has also facilitated savings at the GSA through optimizing leases and reducing unused office space, expected to save an additional $4.5 million. These efforts are part of a larger strategy to enhance efficiency and improve service delivery across federal agencies.
As DOGE continues its work under Elon Musk’s leadership, the focus remains on identifying and eliminating inefficiencies, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are used effectively to serve the American public.
