House to Vote on Trump's Budget Bill Next Week, Aims for May Completion
House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that the House will vote next week on a budget bill aligned with President Trump’s agenda, following the Senate’s passage of its version.
House Republican leaders are rallying support for a budget bill that encapsulates President Donald Trump’s key policy priorities. The legislation, which passed the Senate in the early hours of Saturday, aims to reduce the deficit, enhance border security, maintain low taxes, and promote American energy dominance. Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized the House’s commitment to these goals, stating, “We are now one step closer to achieving those goals.” The Senate’s version of the bill, passed just after 2 a.m. ET, proposes at least $4 billion in spending cuts, while the House’s earlier version demanded between $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion. Both versions include Trump’s priorities on border security, energy, and new tax policies. However, some House conservatives, like Rep. Chip Roy, have expressed concerns over the Senate’s approach, warning of potential opposition. Despite these concerns, House GOP leaders are confident that the Senate’s framework does not hinder their process and are working towards finalizing a reconciliation bill by the end of May. House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington criticized the Senate’s resolution as “unserious and disappointing” but remains committed to collaborating with President Trump and congressional leaders to ensure the final bill aligns with fiscal responsibility and national prosperity.
