Nationwide Protests Target Trump and Musk Over Policy Changes

Over 1,200 protests across all 50 states rallied against President Donald Trump’s administration and Elon Musk’s leadership at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

In a significant display of public dissent, thousands of Americans took to the streets in nationwide ‘Hands Off’ demonstrations, voicing their opposition to the Trump administration’s policies on tariffs, government downsizing, and immigration reform. In New York City’s Bryant Park, protesters like May from Manhattan expressed frustration over what they perceive as a decline in democratic values and rights under Trump’s leadership. “We’ve been taken over by a bunch of robber barons who are trying to take away all of our rights, benefits, and liberty,” May stated, echoing the sentiments of many at the rally.

The protests also targeted Elon Musk, the head of DOGE, with over 200 ‘Tesla Takedown’ events occurring last weekend. Critics of Musk and DOGE are particularly concerned about budget cuts affecting education and science sectors. Josh from Queens, a protester, highlighted the impact on special needs education, while Wendy, a professor from New Jersey, pointed out the detrimental effects on scientific research and grants, especially those aimed at increasing female participation in science.

The ‘Hands Off’ movement, supported by various civil rights and advocacy groups, marks the largest nationwide protest since Trump’s second term began. This surge in activism comes in the wake of a new 10% baseline duty on all U.S. imports implemented by the Trump administration. Despite claims by DOGE of saving Americans $140 billion, critics argue that the department’s methods and accounting remain opaque.

As the protests continue to gain momentum, they reflect a growing public discontent with the current administration’s direction and its impact on various sectors of American life.
