SNL Mocks Trump's Tariffs and Tesla's Troubles in Latest Sketch

Saturday Night Live’s latest sketch took a satirical jab at President Donald Trump’s tariff policies and Tesla’s recent public image issues.

In a biting political sketch, ‘Saturday Night Live’ lampooned President Donald Trump’s new tariff policy and the backlash against Tesla. The sketch introduced a new phrase, MAGDA — ‘Make America Great Depression Again’ — coined by cast member James Austin Johnson, who reprised his role as Trump. The cold-open featured Trump dismissing market turmoil caused by his tariffs, humorously suggesting that the resulting economic depression would be ‘fantastic’ and ‘unbelievable.’

The sketch aired amidst the implementation of Trump’s latest tariffs, which coincided with significant stock market declines. Trump defended his policies on Truth Social, claiming they were part of an ’economic revolution.’ The segment also included fictionalized administration figures like Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Elon Musk, portrayed by Mike Myers, as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk, wearing a Wisconsin cheesehead, made light of Tesla’s public image and introduced a fictional Tesla Model V, a self-vandalizing car.

This satire comes at a time when Tesla has faced numerous anti-Tesla incidents across the country, including vandalism and violence against its vehicles and owners. The sketch highlighted the growing tensions and public sentiment against both Trump’s economic policies and Tesla’s challenges.
