Ksenia Karelina Thanks Trump After Release in Prisoner Swap with Russia

Russian-American ballerina Ksenia Karelina expressed her gratitude to President Donald Trump following her release from wrongful detention in Russia.

Ksenia Karelina, a Russian-American ballerina, was released by Moscow on Thursday, April 10, 2025, after being detained for over a year. Her release came as part of a prisoner swap that saw German-Russian citizen Arthur Petrov, arrested in Cyprus on charges of exporting sensitive microelectronics, freed by the U.S. Upon her arrival at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Karelina shared a heartfelt message of thanks to President Trump, which he later shared on his Truth Social account. ‘Mr. Trump, I’m so, so grateful for you to bring me home and for [the] American government. And I never felt more blessed to be American and I’m so, so happy to get home. Thank you,’ she said. Karelina was sentenced to 12 years in a Russian penal colony after donating to a Ukrainian charity, a charge she pleaded guilty to as treason. Her release marks another success for the Trump administration in securing the freedom of Americans detained abroad, following the recent release of American history teacher Marc Fogel from Russia.
