Trump-Appointed Prosecutor Launches Probe into NJ Governor Over Alleged ICE Non-Cooperation

Alina Habba, the interim top federal prosecutor for New Jersey appointed by President Donald Trump, has initiated an investigation into Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Matt Platkin over allegations of non-cooperation with ICE.

Alina Habba, serving as the U.S. attorney for New Jersey, announced on ‘Hannity’ her decision to probe into the actions of Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Matt Platkin. This decision follows reports that an internal memo from the New Jersey State Police suggested that state police were instructed to ignore thousands of new immigration warrants. These warrants were recently added to the National Crime Information Center, and the alleged directive from Murphy and Platkin was purportedly in alignment with a 2018 policy by former Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, which limited state and local police assistance to federal immigration enforcement.

Habba criticized the reported instructions on the governor’s website, which she claims direct local law enforcement not to cooperate with ICE on administrative warrants issued after due process. She emphasized that such actions contravene federal rules and executive orders, warning that any state leaders obstructing federal law enforcement agencies would face accountability. Habba’s office, located in Newark, has already engaged with state law enforcement, clarifying their legal obligations and capabilities in relation to federal immigration enforcement.

The investigation extends to potential violations in sanctuary cities, with a specific mention of Paterson, New Jersey, where the mayor recently declared the city the American ‘capital of Palestine.’ Governor Murphy has also been in the spotlight for housing a migrant at his home, challenging federal authorities to act. Fox News Digital sought comments from Murphy, Platkin, and Paterson’s Mayor Andre Sayegh, but responses were pending at the time of reporting.
