Trump Plans Extensive Holy Week Observance at White House

President Donald Trump is set to honor Holy Week with a series of events organized by the newly established White House Faith Office, marking a significant observance of the Christian holiday.

In a move to celebrate Holy Week and Easter, President Donald Trump has announced a comprehensive schedule of events to be held at the White House. The initiative, led by the White House Faith Office, aims to honor the Christian holiday ‘with the observance it deserves,’ according to Jennifer Korn, the office’s faith director. The week’s activities will include a Holy Week proclamation, a presidential video message, a pre-Easter dinner, and a White House staff Easter service.

Starting on Palm Sunday, President Trump will issue a presidential Easter proclamation specifically addressing Christians as the Holy Week commences. The proclamation will reaffirm his commitment to defending the Christian faith across various sectors including schools, the military, workplaces, hospitals, and government. On Monday, a Holy Week video will be released, followed by an Easter dinner on Wednesday evening, featuring hymns, Christian opera, and speeches, with notable attendees including Christian leaders and White House officials.

The observance will continue with a staff worship service on Holy Thursday, featuring prominent religious figures and music from Liberty University. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt highlighted the significance of these events, emphasizing the establishment of the White House Faith Office as a fulfillment of President Trump’s promise to millions of Christians.

This initiative also serves as a contrast to previous administrative actions, notably referencing last year’s decision by the Biden administration to designate Easter Sunday as Transgender Day of Visibility, a move that sparked controversy and criticism from religious communities. President Trump’s planned events for Holy Week are intended to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to Christian values and observance.
