Man Charged with Threatening Trump Also Targeted Rep. Nancy Mace

A man charged with threatening President Donald Trump was also found to have targeted Rep. Nancy Mace, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Shawn Monper of Butler, Pennsylvania, who faces charges for making threats against President Donald Trump, also threatened Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., on social media in January. Monper allegedly wrote on YouTube about Mace, “If I ever see her unprotected in public I would live to be the one to put a bullet in her skull. What a disgusting peice [sic] of trash.” The U.S. Capitol Police informed Mace’s office of these threats, and it appears she is the only member of Congress targeted by Monper so far. The reasons behind the threats against Mace, a known Trump ally, remain unclear but occur amidst rising concerns about threats against elected officials across political lines. Monper also made multiple threats against Trump on YouTube, leading to an FBI investigation after posts between January 15 and April 5 were disclosed. Additionally, Monper obtained a firearms permit shortly after Trump’s inauguration and had been stockpiling ammunition, as well as threatening a mass shooting and targeting other figures such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials and Elon Musk. The U.S. Secret Service was also alerted to the threats against Mace. Both the U.S. Capitol Police and Mace’s office have yet to comment on the matter.
