Trump and Stephen Miller Clash with CNN Reporter Over Deported El Salvadoran
In a heated Oval Office exchange, President Donald Trump and advisor Stephen Miller criticized CNN’s Kaitlan Collins over the deportation of an El Salvadoran national.
During a meeting with El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, President Trump took the opportunity to criticize CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins, referring to her as a ‘very low-rated anchor’ as she questioned him about the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Trump directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to respond, who clarified that Abrego Garcia was illegally in the country and linked to the MS-13 gang. The tension escalated when Trump accused CNN of biased reporting.
Stephen Miller, also present, defended the administration’s stance, arguing it was inappropriate for the U.S. to dictate El Salvador’s handling of its citizens. He emphasized that Abrego Garcia’s association with MS-13, designated as a foreign terrorist organization, disqualified him from immigration relief in the U.S.
The discussion comes in the wake of a Supreme Court decision that ordered the U.S. government to facilitate Abrego Garcia’s return, a ruling the Trump administration has portrayed as a victory for its foreign policy authority. Despite the order, the Justice Department has resisted, claiming the courts do not have the power to dictate foreign relations.
Trump’s confrontational style continued as he challenged Collins on her reporting, questioning why she couldn’t simply acknowledge the administration’s efforts to keep criminals out of the country. The exchange underscores ongoing tensions between the Trump administration and the media, particularly CNN, which Trump accused of hating the country and misrepresenting his administration’s achievements on border security.
