Trump Labels Senator Van Hollen 'Fool' After El Salvador Visit

President Donald Trump criticized Senator Chris Van Hollen as a ‘fool’ following the senator’s trip to El Salvador to meet with deported immigrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform to lambast Senator Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., branding him a ‘fool’ for his recent visit to El Salvador. The senator met with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a 29-year-old who was deported from Maryland to El Salvador’s notorious ‘Terrorism Confinement Center’ (CECOT) last month. Trump’s comments came in response to Van Hollen’s publicized meeting, where the senator sought to address the case of Garcia, whose deportation has been acknowledged as an administrative error by some officials, despite claims by top Trump officials that Garcia is a member of the MS-13 gang.

Van Hollen, who is a Democrat, shared his intentions on social media before the trip, stating his main goal was to meet with Garcia. After the meeting, he conveyed Garcia’s message of love to his wife, Jennifer, promising a full update upon his return. The controversy surrounding Garcia’s deportation has escalated, with both a federal district court and the U.S. Supreme Court ordering the Trump administration to facilitate Garcia’s release and return to the U.S. for proper deportation proceedings.

Adding complexity to the situation, allegations of domestic violence against Garcia by his wife Jennifer Vasquez have surfaced, with court documents detailing her accusations of repeated abuse. The Trump administration has highlighted these allegations, which have been filed in court against Garcia, intensifying the debate over his deportation and the actions taken by Senator Van Hollen.

As the political and legal battles continue, more Democrats are reportedly planning to join Van Hollen in El Salvador to push for Garcia’s return to the U.S., highlighting the ongoing tension between the Trump administration and its critics over immigration policies and enforcement actions.
