Elon Musk's DOGE Slashes Hundreds of Millions in 'Wasteful' Government Contracts

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, has announced the termination of contracts and grants totaling hundreds of millions of dollars, targeting what it deems as ‘wasteful’ spending.

In a bold move to streamline federal spending, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), under the leadership of Elon Musk, has eliminated 269 contracts with a combined ceiling value of $845 million, resulting in savings of $255 million. This action, part of a broader initiative to enhance government efficiency, was detailed in a recent DOGE post on social media platform X. Among the terminated contracts was a significant $90 million in grants, including funding for a BIPOC culinary program and a Russian-Far East biodiversity partnership. Additionally, a $50,000 contract from the Department of the Interior aimed at providing problem-solving services was also cut. Attorney General Pam Bondi highlighted the elimination of other grants, such as $2 million for national listening sessions and $625,000 for research on police departments’ LGBTQ liaison services. President Trump, in a recent statement from the Oval Office, praised Musk’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of such measures in reducing wasteful expenditure. Public opinion, as reflected in a recent poll, supports the creation of a government agency focused on efficiency, with many voters appreciating DOGE’s role in making significant spending cuts.
