Trump Calls for Immediate Halt to Kyiv Strikes, Urges Peace Deal

Former President Donald Trump has publicly urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop missile strikes on Kyiv and push for a peace deal amid ongoing conflicts.

In a recent escalation of the conflict, Russia launched a missile attack on Kyiv, resulting in at least nine deaths and dozens injured. Responding to the attack, Trump took to Truth Social to express his dissatisfaction with the strikes, directly addressing Putin with a call to action: “I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5,000 soldiers a week are dying. Let’s get the peace deal DONE.” The attack on Thursday not only claimed lives but also injured at least 90 people, including children, according to Ukrainian reports.

Trump’s message comes at a time when he has been vocal about his hopes for a resolution to the conflict. On Easter, he expressed optimism that a deal could be reached within the week, suggesting that post-agreement, both nations could engage in significant business with the United States. His urgency was further emphasized in another post on April 11, where he lamented the ongoing deaths and described the war as “senseless,” urging Russia to move towards ending the conflict.

Despite these efforts, the Trump administration has yet to secure a peace deal, with officials indicating that the U.S. might withdraw its mediation efforts if significant progress isn’t made soon. Vice President JD Vance has issued an ultimatum to both Ukraine and Russia, stating that the U.S. has put forth a clear proposal and it’s time for both nations to agree or face the U.S. stepping back from the process.

Trump has also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for statements that he believes hinder peace efforts, particularly Zelenskyy’s refusal to recognize Russian control over Crimea. Trump downplayed this stance, suggesting it was not a point for discussion in peace negotiations. As tensions continue, Trump’s direct appeals to Putin and his administration’s diplomatic efforts highlight the urgency to end the conflict and restore peace.
