House Republicans Propose $90 Billion for Trump's Border Security Enhancements

House Republicans have outlined a $90 billion plan to fund President Donald Trump’s border security initiatives, including a modernized border barrier system and increased personnel.

In a significant move to advance President Donald Trump’s agenda, House Republicans have proposed a comprehensive $90 billion package aimed at bolstering border security. The plan, detailed first by Fox News Digital, includes $68.8 billion specifically allocated for Trump’s long-discussed border wall and the hiring of additional border agents. This legislative effort shifts focus from a solely physical barrier to a more integrated ‘border barrier system’ costing $46.5 billion, which would combine traditional fencing with advanced surveillance technologies, improved roads, and enhanced lighting.

The proposed bill also allocates $5 billion to improve facilities and increase personnel for Customs and Border Protection (CBP), addressing long-standing requests from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). A significant portion of this, $4.1 billion, is earmarked for new front-line personnel, with additional funds set aside for retention bonuses to incentivize both new and current CBP staff.

Further, the legislation outlines $813 million for modernizing CBP’s vehicle fleet and $2.7 billion for cutting-edge technologies such as ground sensors, drones, and radar systems to enhance border surveillance. It also includes $673 million to upgrade the nation’s biometrics system for tracking illegal migrants and over $1 billion for new air and maritime platforms.

Beyond immediate border security measures, the bill proposes funding for international events like the 2028 Summer Olympics and the World Cup, as well as initiatives to combat cartel drug smuggling and commemorate victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants. The comprehensive approach underscores the GOP’s commitment to fulfilling Trump’s border security promises, with the budget reconciliation process allowing them to bypass Democratic opposition in Congress.
