Trump's Second Term Hits 100 Days: Focus on Immigration, Tariffs, and Education Reform
President Donald Trump has reached the 100-day mark of his second term, marked by significant actions on immigration, trade, and education.
In his first 100 days of the second term, President Trump has intensified efforts to secure the border, with border czar Tom Homan reporting a 96% decrease in border crossings. The administration has deported over 100,000 illegal immigrants this year alone, though not without controversy, as seen in the case of El Salvador native Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was deported mistakenly but later linked to the MS-13 gang.
On the trade front, Trump imposed sweeping tariffs on April 2, targeting countries accused of unfair trade practices. Initially proposing high tariffs across the board, the administration adjusted its stance on April 9, hiking tariffs on Chinese goods to 145% while temporarily reducing tariffs on other countries to 10%. In response, China escalated its tariffs on U.S. goods to 125%.
Education reform has also been a focus, with Trump signing an executive order on March 20 to dismantle the Department of Education. The move aims to return educational authority to the states and eliminate federal influence, though essential services like Pell Grants and student loans will continue under different agencies.
Additionally, Trump has continued his efforts to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine, hosting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in February. He aims to end the conflict within the next two weeks, urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to cease attacks and sign a peace deal.
This period has also seen Trump sign over 140 executive orders, a significant increase from his first term and surpassing historical records, indicating an aggressive use of presidential authority to push his agenda forward.
