Elon Musk Applauded by Trump's Cabinet as He Prepares to Leave DOGE Role

Elon Musk received a round of applause from President Donald Trump’s Cabinet as he prepares to exit his role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

During a recent Cabinet meeting, President Donald Trump expressed his gratitude towards Elon Musk for his contributions to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Trump acknowledged the unfair treatment Musk has faced but emphasized the widespread appreciation and respect for him across the country. As Musk’s tenure as a special government employee nears its end, Trump extended an invitation for Musk to stay longer, though he acknowledged Musk’s desire to return to his responsibilities at Tesla and SpaceX, and to his family.

Musk has been at the helm of DOGE since the administration’s inception in January, leading efforts to identify and eliminate government overspending, fraud, and mismanagement. His work has been repeatedly praised by Trump and his administration. Musk’s role as a special government employee, which allows for temporary employment for specific initiatives, is set to conclude on May 30, marking the end of his 130-day term.

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles confirmed that Musk is transitioning away from regular work at the White House, though he continues to contribute to DOGE’s efforts remotely. Musk highlighted during the Cabinet meeting that DOGE has successfully saved the U.S. government $160 billion by trimming unnecessary expenditures. He celebrated the administration’s achievements, attributing them to the public’s demand for secure borders, safe cities, and sensible spending.

Despite facing protests and attacks on Tesla vehicles due to his involvement with DOGE, Musk remains a staunch supporter of Trump, having endorsed his 2024 run. As DOGE, a temporary organization aimed at streamlining federal government operations, approaches its dissolution date in July 2026, Musk’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in the administration’s efforts to enhance government efficiency.
