Elon Musk's Intense 100 Days at DOGE: Ice Cream, Tiny Office, and Government Efficiency
Elon Musk revealed details of his intense first 100 days leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), including late-night ice cream snacks and a ‘comically tiny’ office.
Elon Musk, Tesla and SpaceX CEO, recently shared insights into his first three months leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a role he took under the Trump administration. During an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Musk disclosed that he saved taxpayers over $160 million by streamlining government operations. However, his tenure was not just about work; Musk also enjoyed midnight snacks of Häagen-Dazs caramel ice cream from the White House kitchen and multiple nights in the historic Lincoln bedroom, courtesy of his friendship with President Donald Trump.
Musk’s office in the White House, which he humorously described as ‘comically tiny’ with a view of nothing but an HVAC unit, became a hub for his efforts to map out the government and tackle waste and fraud. Despite the intensity of the job, which required him to be in Washington, D.C., nearly every day of the week initially, Musk found joy in around 60-70% of his work, particularly when he felt progress was being made for American taxpayers.
DOGE, under Musk’s leadership, has been active in addressing inefficiencies, resulting in the termination of 1% of the federal workforce, although 26,000 new hires were also made. Musk emphasized the department’s commitment to reducing the federal government’s size and increasing productivity in the private sector. Additionally, DOGE has referred 57 cases of possible voter fraud to the Department of Justice, highlighting the department’s role in fighting fraud.
As Musk plans to reduce his time in D.C. to one or two days a week, he remains committed to the DOGE mission, viewing it as a ‘way of life’ similar to Buddhism. He expressed pride in the DOGE team’s efforts and their willingness to serve despite lucrative private sector opportunities. Looking forward, Musk will continue to support DOGE’s goals, albeit from a distance, as he returns to focusing primarily on his companies.
