Trump Ousts National Security Advisor Mike Waltz Amid Signal Chat Leak Scandal

President Donald Trump has removed National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and several other staffers from the National Security Council following a controversial Signal chat leak.

In a significant shakeup within the Trump administration, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, have been dismissed from their positions at the National Security Council. The move comes after a leak involving a Signal group chat that included top national security officials discussing potential military actions against Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The incident came to light when The Atlantic’s Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg was inadvertently added to the chat by Waltz.

Waltz, a former Florida congressman and decorated Green Beret, publicly took responsibility for the inclusion of the journalist, stating it was an embarrassing mistake and promising to address it. Despite the White House initially considering the matter closed and continuing to support Waltz, the fallout led to his ouster along with other NSC staffers.

President Trump, addressing the media, emphasized that those removed were individuals he felt could not fulfill their duties effectively or had conflicting loyalties. He maintained confidence in the remaining NSC team, praising their success in dealing with the Houthi situation. The administration insists that no classified information was shared in the leaked Signal chat.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries commented on Waltz’s removal, suggesting it would be the first of several changes within the administration. The incident has sparked further controversy and debate over security protocols and communication within the Trump administration.
