Biden Critiques Trump's First 100 Days, Accuses Him of Appeasing Russia
In a recent interview, former President Joe Biden sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s initial tenure, particularly his approach to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Former President Joe Biden, in his first broadcast interview since leaving office, lambasted President Donald Trump’s first 100 days, labeling his policies toward Russia as ‘modern-day appeasement.’ Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today program, Biden highlighted his own administration’s efforts to bolster the NATO alliance, contrasting it with Trump’s desire for a swift end to the Russia-Ukraine war. The conflict, which erupted in early 2022 during Biden’s presidency, has seen Trump suggest that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy might need to cede land to Russia for peace.
Biden expressed confusion and concern over Trump’s willingness to allow a ‘dictator’ like Vladimir Putin to retain control over Ukrainian territories. He also criticized a February meeting where Trump and Vice President JD Vance publicly rebuked Zelenskyy, suggesting it was unbecoming of American leadership. Biden further questioned Trump’s rhetoric on other international matters, such as his comments on Greenland and Canada.
When defending his own presidential record, Biden emphasized the job creation and economic growth achieved during his term, challenging Trump’s claims of inheriting a struggling economy. He dismissed Trump’s assertion of a historically great first 100 days, stating, ‘I’ll let history judge that. I don’t see anything that was triumphant.’
This ongoing critique from Biden underscores a significant rift in U.S. foreign policy approaches and domestic economic narratives between the two administrations.
