Democrat Candidate Deletes Progressive Posts in Bid to Win Trump District

Rebecca Bennett, a Democrat running in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, has deleted social media posts praising progressive figures in an attempt to appeal to voters in a district that leans Republican.

Rebecca Bennett, a Democrat challenging GOP Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, has strategically removed several social media posts that praised progressive politicians and causes. Bennett, who has positioned herself as a moderate in the race, deleted posts that included praise for progressive figures like Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former Vice President Kamala Harris. These deletions come as Bennett aims to unseat Kean in a district rated as “Lean Republican” by the Cook Political Report.

Bennett’s now-deleted posts included expressions of admiration for Warren, such as “Love her,” and support for Harris with comments like “Let’s Goooooo” after her announcement as Joe Biden’s running mate. Additionally, Bennett removed posts that supported the first impeachment of President Trump and called for investigations into law enforcement following the 2020 civil unrest.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) criticized Bennett, accusing her of trying to hide her “radical, out of touch agenda.” In response, Bennett’s campaign dismissed these attacks as “recycled bad faith” and emphasized her focus on her military service record and Kean’s shortcomings in representing working families.

The race in NJ-07 is significant as the GOP holds a thin majority in the House, making every seat crucial. Bennett’s campaign strategy reflects the challenges Democrats face in districts that favored Trump, highlighting the delicate balance between appealing to a broader electorate while maintaining support from the party’s progressive base.
