Trump Nominates Dr. Casey Means for Surgeon General on RFK Jr.'s Recommendation

President Donald Trump has nominated Dr. Casey Means for the position of U.S. Surgeon General, following a recommendation from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

President Donald Trump announced Dr. Casey Means as his new nominee for U.S. Surgeon General, replacing his initial pick, Dr. Janette Nesheiwat. Trump’s decision was influenced by a recommendation from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who described Means as a ‘fantastic, brilliant woman’ with academic credentials from Stanford. Despite not personally knowing Means, Trump expressed confidence in her abilities, stating, ‘I listened to Bobby, I think she’ll be great.’

Dr. Casey Means is known for her advocacy in the ‘Make America Healthy Again’ movement and has been influential in shaping the administration’s health policies alongside her brother, Calley Means. The siblings co-authored the book ‘Good Energy’ in 2024, focusing on the chronic disease epidemic, and Casey co-founded the health-tech company Levels. Calley previously served as a special advisor to Kennedy.

The reasons behind the withdrawal of Dr. Nesheiwat’s nomination remain unclear, and she has since expressed her intention to continue supporting Trump and working with Kennedy in a senior policy role. Meanwhile, Trump has indicated plans to nominate Michael Waltz, Nesheiwat’s brother-in-law and recently fired National Security Advisor, as the next ambassador to the United Nations, replacing his initial choice, New York GOP Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.
