Trump Brokers Ceasefire Between India and Pakistan
U.S. President Donald Trump announced a successful mediation leading to a full and immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, U.S. President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to declare that India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire following a night of intense mediation efforts by the United States. ‘After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,’ Trump stated in his post. He extended congratulations to both nations for employing ‘Common Sense and Great Intelligence’ in resolving their conflict.
The agreement comes at a critical time, given that both countries are nuclear powers, and any escalation could have had dire consequences on the global stage. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, while commending the efforts, maintained that the U.S. should not intervene in the conflict, describing it as fundamentally not America’s business. However, he acknowledged the hard work of President Trump’s team, particularly Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in facilitating the ceasefire.
Rubio detailed the mediation process, noting that he and Vice President Vance had engaged with high-level officials from both nations, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif. Rubio expressed his pleasure at the ceasefire agreement and commended the leaders of India and Pakistan for their ‘wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship’ in choosing peace. The ceasefire is set to be followed by talks on a broader range of issues at a neutral site.
House Republican Conference Chair Rep. Lisa McClain praised Trump as ‘The Peace President’ in response to the announcement, reflecting the political support for Trump’s diplomatic efforts. This development marks a significant moment in U.S. foreign policy under Trump’s administration, showcasing his administration’s role in international peacekeeping.
