Rubio Reveals Biden-Era 'Disinformation' Dossier on Trump Official

Secretary of State Marco Rubio disclosed at a recent Cabinet meeting that the Biden administration’s State Department had compiled a ‘disinformation’ dossier on an unidentified Trump administration official.

During a Cabinet meeting on April 30, 2025, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the Trump administration is actively seeking to deport illegal immigrants and revealed the existence of a ‘disinformation’ dossier created by the Biden administration’s State Department. Rubio mentioned that the dossier targeted a Trump official present at the meeting, though he did not disclose the identity, stating that the decision to reveal it would be left to the individual.

The dossier was part of a broader effort by the now-defunct Global Engagement Center (GEC), a little-known office within the State Department, which Rubio criticized for attempting to censor free speech. Rubio emphasized the importance of freedom of speech and transparency as the best means to combat disinformation, rather than government monitoring and censorship.

The GEC, established in 2016 by former President Barack Obama, initially focused on counterterrorism messaging but later expanded to counter foreign propaganda and disinformation. Rubio has been vocal about his opposition to the office, describing it as a tool used to silence American voices and part of a ‘censorship-industrial complex.’

In response to Rubio’s revelations, the State Department has not provided further details on the identity of the targeted official, directing inquiries back to Rubio’s initial statement. The Trump administration plans to turn over these dossiers to the affected individuals, allowing them to decide on public disclosure.

This development comes amidst Rubio’s efforts to overhaul what he describes as a ‘bloated’ State Department, including the closure of the GEC’s successor, the Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference Hub, which was rebranded just before Trump’s inauguration.
